How to Incorporate Family Heirlooms into your Wedding Flowers

My favorite weddings are the ones where the full day just feels like the bride and groom. I love when the ceremony, reception, decor, music and overall vibe accurately reflect the couple's personality. You can just tell it's their wedding. One of the easiest ways to let a little personality shine at your wedding is by incorporating family heirlooms into the day.

The bouquet is one of the easiest places to add in something meaningful. Instead of a traditional ribbon wrap, the bouquet can incorporate in a special family linen, like a grandfather's handkerchief, lace from your mother's wedding dress, or a significant necklace tied loosely around the ribbon. At my own wedding, I pinned my great grandmother's broach onto my bouquet. I love having that connection with my family in my hands while making the biggest commitment of my life.

A few other thoughtful ways to incorporate family mementoes in your bouquet could be adding small trinket photos around the stems. Or creatively adding cameo broaches to mix with the flowers.

The possibilities of adding meaningful touches doesn't stop at the reception. Using family china or serveware as floral containers is a creative way to add a personal affect. Silver pitchers and mint julep cups make perfect vessels for florals at guest tables and throughout the reception.

Sometimes it's these little personal touches that help define the day and the marriage to come.
